Dylox grub control targets existing grubs that are currently damaging your lawn. Grubs feed on the roots of your grass which eventually causes the plant to die. Grub damage appears as brown areas that grow outward as the grubs consume more roots. To check to see if the area has grubs envision a one foot square in your grass, then cut 3 sides of it with a knife or razor blade. Pull back the grass like it was carpet. If it is very easy to pull up because of lack of roots, grubs could be the problem. Also you will usually see grubs under the grass. Point on the picture for an example:
